Pakistan fears its own Extremism || Internet shutdown in Pakistan || riots

Pakistan's government has taken the decision to ban Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), whose supporters and members have been violently protesting since the arrest of their chief, Saad Hussain Rizvi on Monday.

Pakistan Interior Minister said "today we've decided that ban on TLP and this file is going to the cabinet for approval from today,"

This ban was retaliation for three days of violent protests by TLP supporters, in which 2 policemen died and 340 injured.

Why TLP protesting

TLP supporters are protesting because of caricatures of Prophet Muhammad in which artist shows Prophet Muhammad in the wrong way. In November 2020 TLP and the police clashed so violently that the government gave in to their demands the following days. In their charter of demands. but the government of Pakistan not taking them seriously and TLP leader saad Hussain Rizvi started the protest.

“If you have forgotten the promise, see our history… You have got time until Feb 17 to expel the French ambassador,” he had earlier warned. On February 11, the Imran Khan government reached a new agreement with TLP and assured that their demands will be tabled before the Parliament on April 20. Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had told TLP that no other PM had raised the issue of blasphemy on international platforms more than him. However, in his signature U-turn, Imran Khan failed to implement the agreement ahead of the April 20 deadline.


What protestor want 

Protester wants to send France ambassador and not to import anything which is manufactured by France company. TLP also wants not to appoint its ambassadors to France

Temporarily Blocking of all Social Media platform

Pakistan Ministry of Interior has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority(PTA) to temporarily block access to all social media platforms across the country. Ministry announced that it is suspending the services of Twitter, Whatsapp, Facebook, YouTube, and Telegram in the country in order to "maintain public order and safety"

Indias concerns

The 818 Indian Sikhs arrived in Pakistan by the Wagah border on Monday to attend the Vaisakhi festival in Gurudwara Panja Sahid Hassanbdal, Rawalpindi. Due to protests in Pakistan, they were taken to Gurdwara in Lahore. Pakistani authorities have rescheduled their visits. Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabandhak committee's(PSGOC) Satwant Singh said, "security arrangements are being reviewed by the authorities .. arrangements being made to facilitate the Jatha". Indian government monitoring the situation very closely and in touch with Pakistan External Ministry.
